DIN rails

What is a DIN rail?
DIN is the abbreviation for 'Deutsches Institut für Normung'. With the DIN rail, this german institute defined a standardised fastening system for electrical engineering. Electro-technical components such as earth leakage switches and DIN sockets are clamped onto the metal DIN rail. The advantage of a standardised fixing system is that you can be sure that the DIN components fit in the DIN rail.
Application DIN rail
A DIN rail is used for, for example:
- Electrical control systems: switches, relays, fuse holders and other electrical components
- Industrial automation: in factories and production environments, you use DIN rails to install Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Input/Output (I/O) modules and other automation equipment
- Home automation of smart homes: DIN rails are used to mount home automation equipment such as thermostats, lighting controllers and security systems.
- Solar power systems: to mount inverters, fuse blocks and other components of solar power installations
19-inch DIN rail
The 19-inch DIN rail is a standard DIN rail mounted on a 19-inch bracket. Mounting the DIN rail is easy by placing the bracket in a 19" patch cabinet. This gives you electrical components and your network installation in one place.
The DIN rail dimension is 42.5 cm in width. The height of the bracket is 1U or 2U.
