Serverrack24.com has a wide range of server racks in its assortment. All server racks are basically identical, but a number of choices have to be made before you can find the right one for you. In this article, we would like to give you some insights on how make this choice carefully considered.
How many units do I need? What is the height?
Each server rack has a certain height, which is expressed in "U" (Unit). The following rule of thumb applies: "1U = 1.75 inch = 4.445 cm".
For example, if you choose an 18U Server rack, you can place 18 units in this rack.
Often your supplier for switches or servers will indicate the number of Units per device.
Example:
I bought a server of 4U, a Switch of 1U, a Patch panel of 1U and a cable management tool of 1U, how tall must my server rack be at least? 4+1+1+1 = 7U.
All our wall mount server racks are available from: 6U (367mm) to 18U (1000mm).
All our free-standing racks are available from: 12U to 47U.
Which server rack width do I need?
Our server racks have a width of 600 or 800 mm, it is important to know that this does not make any difference for the installation of the equipment, as each of these racks features a "19 inch profile". This is where the servers and other equipment are placed. This profile is 19 inches wide (48.26 cm). This only concerns the free space available next to the servers.
If you choose a 600 mm wide cabinet this is rather limited, if you choose an 800 mm wide rack then you can, for example, still turn your wrist quite easily during installation and maintenance work.
Note: An additional advantage of the 800 mm wide rack is that it is fully equipped with a number of cable hooks in each corner of the server rack, depending on the height, and a vertical cable entry. This is a vertical metal shaft including a cover plate in which you place all cables neatly and out of sight.
How deep does my server rack need to be?
Each server rack has a certain depth, varying from 600 mm to 1200 mm.
The fact that this concerns outer dimensions must always be taken into account. By default (depending on how you set the 19 inch profiles) +- 4 cm is omitted. Keep this in mind when you choose a certain server rack. Also remember to measure the server including the plugs at the back.
In addition, you should keep at least 5 to 10 cm of extra space available at the back so that hot air generated by your server can be properly discharged in a controlled manner.

When should I choose a wall mount rack?
Wall mount racks are compact in size and can therefore be placed almost anywhere. They are the perfect solution for safely storing small equipment. Our wall mount racks are available with a depth of 450 mm and 600 mm.
The 600 mm deep wall mount racks are available in two different variants: wall mount racks with an installation depth of 600 mm and tiltable wall mount racks.
Tilting wall mount racks basically consist of two parts. The part (150mm) that is attached to the wall and the tilting part (450mm). When frequent adjustments to your equipment are required, the tilting or swiveling part ensures easy access to the rear of the equipment. Also, a tilting wall mount cabinet takes up little space, so they can easily be mounted in the meter rack or under a desk.
Note: If you choose a tilting wall mount rack, the maximum installation depth is 450mm.

Which door should I choose?
As you may have seen, all our free-standing server racks are equipped with 2 different types of doors. A glass or a perforated door. The differences are explained quickly:
A glass door is often used when choosing patch solutions without extreme heat generation. Think, for example, of several patch strips with a telephone switchboard.
These server racks feature a glass front door and a closed steel door at the back. An additional advantage of a glass door is that it is much more soundproof than its perforated counterpart.
A perforated door provides better ventilation and is usually used when multiple servers are placed in the rack. These server racks have a metal woven steel wire door at the front, and a double back door (left and right can open separately) at the back.
Why choose our server racks?
We strive to provide our server racks with the best possible comforts. That is why our server racks are equipped as standard with, among other things:
