Power is a crucial aspect when setting up electronic equipment in a server rack. Typically, you have a power outlet somewhere near your server rack, and from there, all devices need to be powered. As you usually connect more than one device, you want to create multiple power connections at one point. This is where a power strip comes in.
19 Inch Power Strips
Special 19 inch power strips are available, already equipped with a mounting profile. This allows you to attach the power strip at any desired height in your 19-inch server rack, providing organization to your cabling.
Tip: Attach the 19-inch power strip to the rear two posts in your server rack and place a small device that doesn't require the full rack depth at the same height on the front two posts. This way, the power strip doesn't take up additional space (height unit).
Extra Protection
When connecting network equipment to a power strip, it's wise to choose one with extra protection to reduce the risk of damage caused by sudden voltage spikes. Power strips with added protection are available with Master Overload and Surge Protection Device.
Master Overload
An added feature of a power strip is Master Overload (MO). Master Overload means that if more than 16 amperes of current is requested from the connected equipment, it will automatically disconnect through the built-in fuse.

Surge Protection Device
A power strip with a Surge Protection Device (SPD) has an integrated overvoltage protection that shields equipment from unexpected voltage spikes, such as lightning strikes. The SPD switch ensures that the power strip is automatically turned off in such cases.
