The size of the server rack depends on the network devices you intend to place inside. In our shop, the server racks' external dimensions are standard. In this article, we illustrate how much space you have inside using drawings.
Various External Dimensions
Wall racks and server racks are available in various sizes. A wall rack has a depth of 450 or 600 mm. A standing server rack is 600, 800, 1000, or 1200 mm deep.
Determining the Needed Rack Depth
To determine the rack depth you need, measure the depth of the deepest network device that will be placed in the server rack. Add about 5 to 10 centimeters to this depth. This space should be reserved for cables and air circulation. Once you've done this calculation, you'll know the depth of the rack you need.
Inside a wall or server rack, there are four vertical styles, one at each corner of the rack. You attach network devices to these attachment styles. The attachment styles can be adjusted in depth. This is useful if, for example, you want to attach a heavy device not only at the front but also at the back. You can also adjust the distance to fit your server's telescopic rails. By placing the vertical styles close together or further apart, you make the distance fit precisely.
Standard 19 Inch Width
The mounting frame of server and wall racks is standard 19 inches, or 48.26 cm. And because 19 inches is a standard width of networking equipment, your 19-inch devices will therefore always fit exactly into a 19-inch server rack.
