Battery rack for solar panel batteries

Battery rack for solar panel batteries

More and more households are choosing alternative energy sources, such as solar energy, because of sustainability. Almost every newly built home has solar panels on the roof. The "surplus" of generated energy is stored in a home battery. This is an expensive battery that you need to store safely in a special battery box. In this article you can read more about storing energy safely and the battery box.

Storing solar energy in battery

You can usually only directly use 30% of the electricity you generate with solar panels. Solar panels convert sunlight into electrical energy. The power generated is measured in watt-hours (Wh) or kilowatt-hours (kWh). You want to use the "surplus" of generated energy at a later time when the sun is not shining. To store solar energy, you need a home battery (battery pack).

Storing solar energy at home

Lithium-ion batteries are usually used as home battery packs. This battery can withstand cool to normal room temperature. Be aware that a battery is a (large) power storage device. It is important to store the battery safely so that you avoid power shocks or fire hazards. Therefore, it is wise to store the home battery in a separate, non-flammable cabinet. The rack should also be lockable so that the battery is not accessible to children.

Because many lithium ion batteries are built in the 19-inch construction style, they fit perfectly in a 19-inch patch rack. You then use this as a battery rack.

A 19-inch rack is a steel cabinet with lockable front and rear doors and side walls. The front door has security glass. The back door and side walls are made of sheet steel.

The rack is 60 cm wide and 60 cm deep. The rack height depends on the space you need for the battery pack(s) and ranges from 368 to 2,000 mm. Wall cabinets are available with heights from 368 to 900 mm. Floor-standing racks come in heights from 720 to 2,000 mm. Standing racks come standard with adjustable feet.

Inside the rack are 4 vertical mounting profiles. In these profiles you can mount the 19-inch lithium battery directly. You need special cage nuts for mounting. These are included with the rack.

What is solar energy?

Solar energy is definitely not a new invention. The fact that light can be converted into electricity was discovered as early as the 19th century. Solar energy has been used to generate electricity for more than 60 years. Whether it is used for space travel or for our calculators.... Everything runs on solar energy.

The impact of conventional energy sources

Conventional energy sources, such as fossil fuels or nuclear power, have major environmental consequences:

  • Nuclear energy poses enormous risks, due to its radioactive radiation, to humans and the environment
  • Fossil oil is scarce and combustion releases sulfur dioxide that is harmful to the environment
  • Burning coal causes high CO2 emissions
  • Natural gas is cleaner than coal and petroleum when burned, but is dangerous because of its explosive properties

Buy a battery rack for your home battery

Batteries that do not have a 19-inch suspension can be placed on steel 19-inch shelves or {blog_l_profiles}. The battery rack is equipped with several cable pass-throughs so that cables can be laid inside the rack even with the doors closed. Ventilation holes all around in the rack provide passive air circulation and prevent possible overheating.
